    The Port Macquarie Hastings Council says the mid north coast grows some of the best hardwoods in Australia and the council's Forest's Taskforce is actively promoting the benefits of a well managed forest system.
    The United Nationals has also declared 2011 the International Year of the Forests and a number of initiatives that are underway in the region. New South Wales offered up to $150 worth of free native trees to schools from the Hunter to the McLeay.
