    Dumfries and Galloway is the part of 32 council areas of Scotland. It was founded in 1975 by joining the historic Galloway region to the County of Dumfries (Dumfriesshire). The council was formed for the purpose of council administration.

    Transport in the area is operated by various bus companies such as  McEwan's, Huston's,  Stagecoach Western and Mcall's coaches. Train operators are Transpennine Express, Scot Rail First and Virgin Trains & Planes

    Railway:

    There are 7 working railway stations in the region. All are located on the Glasgow South Western Line.  Lockerbie  is located on the West Coast Main Line.

    Bus and coach:

    Sea:

    Two main ports are located in Dumfries and Galloway which offer services to Northern Ireland.  Both ports are located in the West of the region.

    The region of Dumfries and Galloway do not has any commercial airports. The nearest airports are Carlisle Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport. There are few  private airfields in the region.
