   I was able to fix this problem with the toll free phone help of Joanne & Ben Batchelor of "Batchelor Business Systems" in Calabasas, CA.  The platen (roller) and the metal "guard" piece beneath the platen needed to be better snapped into place.
   Easy!  Platen: Squeeze at the same time the black two-piece clips on both ends of the platen to lift it up and snap it down better.  If that doesn't work... Metal "guard": The guard sits under the platen, which also needs to be in place, which may need to be realigned and pressed down better, with the two small "pins" fitting into the two "forks" at both ends.  The rubber rollers must show in the metal "windows" without touching the window edges and slightly raised above the windows, tested by running your hand along the window/roller line.  Be sure to snap the platen correctly in place after securing the guard.  Good luck!
