    Hi,
Modern vcrs dont have a rotory k**b for tracking. They use electronic tracking and is marked most of the time on the remote as tracking + and - along with the channel up and down button. Thats usually the same as that on the face of the vcr . The channel up and down button will be the tracking while the tape plays. Now on newer vcr's the tracking is done on screen thru a menu. Now most if not all vcr now days have automatic tracking controls but as stated before on some inexpensive tapes or worn tapes the automatic tracking does not function properly and is not at all a fault in the vcr. If you come across this problem where a tape will start to get better then seems to overshoot the good picture mark then simply try to adj the tracking by pressing and holding down the channel up or down button and go back and forth till it locks in. One more thing if you cant seem to get this tape to play in any vcr as it wont lock in or changes speed all the time simply open carefully the front door of the tape without touching the tape and look at it. If at the bottom of the tape you see it crinkled or folded or creased the tape is damaged and cannot be used. The bottom of a vcr tape is where the control track is to tell the machine what mode it was recorded in and what speed to set it at.
    Hope this helps.
