    Hi,
Oh, he was fighting for his country's I would not say independence. He lead the Dakyah Movement. Philippines was in the Spanish's power that time. He fought basicly on three things, read, and you'll get what I mean that he's not really fightning for independence.
    1. Philippines be converted to Spanish citizens.
    2. No discrimination between Spanish and Philippinos. That is, same rights for both side.
    3. The freedom of voicing out.

La Solidaridad that is published in Barcelona is the official Dakyah Movement paper/printed media.

He was thrown to Dapitan Mindanao because the Spanish felt threatened. Then after that he was accused of being involved in a rebellion, alas, he was sentenced to death. How sad :(

He was a start for the Philippines' independence.

Science? Arts? I don't think so....
