   Red Indians is actually considered disrespectful to Natve Americans. The story goes that when Columbus set off to look for a quicker way to India, he ended up in what is now known as North America. He believed that he was in India. The Natives that he saw had red-toned skin which is why he called them 'Red Indians.' However, Native Americans found this term as offensive which is why they are officially known as 'Native Americans.' Hope it helped!
