why does my Lite On LH-18A1P DVDRW burner not open when i push the button?

   I may have had the same problem.
   Does your tray attempt to open & get caught? Does it make a sound when you press the button but it seems to be stuck?
   If so, this is what I did:
   1. Remove RW drive from PC. 2. Remove the top cover. (you have to push black plastic clips in ward to remove front plastic cover) 3. Plug the power cord back in 4. press open/close button with top cover off. My tray opened. 5. Insert any music CD or DVD and press open/close button. 6. put cover back on. Hopefully it should now open and close with the disc in it.
   Now the inconvenient part of my solution: You must LEAVE a cd or DVD in the drive every time you close it.  
   
   So far this has solved my problem.

   First of all, this unit in this specific production run is a piece of junk, this is my last lite-on...

   
   

   The problem is the specs on the tray length and/or the proper alignment of the eject gear.  Take the front cover off the tray and it will close and open correctly, which of course is BS.  Junk is Junk.
