Buzzing with optical

Having issues with the 2 optical inputs on my rca rt2870r, everything analog seems to work well.  It's only when my system tries to decode to DD 5.1, I get a buzzing sound.  The only way it will even accept any signal properly through optical is if I set my components to stereo.  On my receiver I do notice that when using optical, the only surround sound modes are Dolby Digital + PLII , Instead of just Dolby Digital 5.1.  I have tried 2 different cables, and 2 different components and both have the same issues described as above.

    hey i have the same problem! i just got my RT2870R today and when i pluged my PS3 in with optical cable...all i got was static! i like this theater system very good looking and perfect for what i need...so if you found out what was wrong let me know please..or if there are any others that know how to fix please help!
