Last week I quit my job and decided to set up my own office. Only thing is, once I rented out office space in a desirable neighbourhood, I didn’t have enough money left over to buy any furniture and had to borrow some!

If Juan Pablo Naranjo and Jean-Christophe Orthlieb’s portable furniture set was already available in the market, it would have made a world of difference in that moment of emergency. The latest design unveiled by Naranjo and Orthlieb’s design house, NOCC, is the ‘Help Me Darwin’ kit which is being featured at the Talent 2008 exhibit at Designhuis in Eindhoven, between October 18 and November 30. The Help me Darwin kit is emergency furniture set based on Darwin’s theories of evolution. It features a foldable table, screen and three stools all made from cardboard and ready to be transported in an easy to carry shoulder bag. What’s more, the bag itself transforms into a bed’s mattress.

Creative, practical and with almost non-existent production costs, the Help Me Darwin kit is easy to set up requiring no external help and would be a god-sent product in times of crisis, such as a natural calamity.
