I have been invited on Diwali party by some Indian friends in Ohio but I do not know how they celebrate Diwali. I would appreciate if anyone knows and could tell me as I also want to enjoy the festival in future.

Generally speaking, the Diwali is an important five-day festival in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism, celebrated for different reasons, occurring between mid-October and mid-November. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in India, or five continuous days, where the third days is celebrated as the main Diwali festival or 'Festival of lights'. Although Diwali is celebrated all the 3 days but firing crackers will start one week before Diwali indicating the festival of lights is approaching. The First day is called Naraka Chaturdashii and it commemorates Lord Krishna killing Devil King Narakasura and rescued many people from the command of Devil King Narakasura. The victory of Lord Krishna is celebrated by the HIndus burning crackers. The second day starts with the Lakshmi pooja, when the people engage in pooja for lakshmi for prosperity and happiness in all forms. On the third day, Balipadyami, Lord Vishnu killed Devil King Bali chakravarthi. That is how it is celebrated in India. Diwali is considered to be one of the longest festivals in the Hindu year.It is a time when everything in India comes to a standstill except family life, feasting and shopping and is considered auspicious for shopping, inaugurations of new homes, business deals or for starting any new ventures and projects.
