Following guidelines should be followed to get your company registered in NewYork:
Register your business name with the state of New York. You can do this by going to the County Clerk's office in the county where the business will be located. This is for regular businesses and partnerships. This also applies to a sole proprietorship that has a different name from your own.
If you want to register a corporation name, you must do so with the Secretary of State at the Department of State, which is located in Albany.
Apply for a Federal Employer ID number. This is called an employer identification number, or EIN. If you have a corporation, partnership or sole proprietorship in which you will be hiring employees, you need an EIN. You can get this through the IRS by filing the federal form SS-4.
Use the EIN for your taxpayer information if you are going to be hiring employees, or if you need to have access to federal pensions or tax returns. If you are only going to be working for yourself and will not be hiring any employees, you can use your Social Security number in place of an EIN.
