   Check manually which of the pages are having 404 errors on them? At times it happens that when Google bot crawls your site, due to some server issue it cannot find pages and gets 404…. Check manually and if you yourself find 404s for the pages that do exist, then get the server issue fixed on immediate basis.
   
   Next if you really have 404s on your site, means pages used to exist and have been removed or moved to new location fix them immediately in following ways.
   
   If page has been removed and is internally linked from other pages, redirect (permanent) it to home or any other relevant page.
   
   If page has been moved to a new location, place a 301 permanent redirect on it, redirecting it to new location.
   
   After fixing 404 errors, design your 404 page in a way that it has some useful content on it, i.e. search functionality or links to popular pages of the site, so in case if the error occurs the user should not close the browser immediately and should stay on site for longer period and browse and interact to the content of his interest!
