Argentina travel to Paraguay having lost three of their last four games and need a win to keep themselves in fourth place in the group. If they fail to win and Colombia beat Uruguay then Argentina will drop down into fifth place which would require them to face a play-off game against the fourth placed team from the North,Central America & Caribbean qualifying division.
Can Argentina beat third placed Paraguay and help save Maradona's job?

After losing three of their last four games, including a 3-1 win at home to Brazil and a 6-1 thrashing in Bolivia, Argentina have slipped down to fourth in the table. Only two points separate Argentina from their nearest challengers, Ecuador and Colombia. With Argentina visiting Paraguay on Wednesday, a win or a draw is needed to keep them from slipping down to fifth place, where teams face a play-off against the fourth placed CONCACAF team which is currently Costa Rica. Paraguay however will be going for the win which would secure their qualification for the World Cup.
With Diego Maradona under pressure to get results and Argentina’s defence very fragile, things don’t look good for the Albicelestes and Maradona could be out of his dream job should his side fail to beat Paraguay on Wednesday night. But, Maradona remains confident of success “We’ll go to Paraguay with the same confidence as always”. And, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano Argentina certainly have the players to beat anyone; it’s whether or not Maradona can mould them into a team which has so far been the problem.
