To open an account for oversea students the rules are the same. all the banks normally need is, proof of resident, copy of the passport and the visa. There are four main banks in canada, Bank of Montreal, Royal bank, CIBC and Bank of Nova Soctia; all of the banks follow the same mandate. Each bank actually offers a student saving accounts with lower processing fees and makes it easier for students to save money. your son should have no problem whatsoever in opening a saving account.
