What are the India’s major agriculture Programs and schemes?

My husband wants to start his agriculture business in India, could you tell me some information about Government programs and schemes for agriculture sector. I need some details about government fertilizer and agriculture marketing policies. Thanks.

     In order to increase the agriculture production, the government of India introduced different developmental Program and schemes for Crops, technology mission on oilseeds and pulses, Horticulture, Fertilizer, natural resources management. Few main Programs are given below:


    • Crops: Intensive Cotton Development Program (ICDP) under Mini-Mission- II of Technology Mission on Cotton and minikit Program for Rice, Wheat & Coarse Cereals.

    • Technology Mission on Oilseeds and Pulses: Oilseeds Production Program (OPP), Accelerated Maize Development Program (AMDP), Sub-program on Maize-based cropping systems for food security in India under GOI-UNDP Food Security Program, National Pulses Development Project (NPDP), Oil Palm Development Program (OPDP),Post Harvest Technology in Oilseeds, Pulses & Maize, National Oilseeds and Vegetable Oils development Board (NOVOD).

    • Horticulture: in order to improve the horticulture conditions government of India introduced national horticulture board schemes and made a coconut development board. They also made a technology Mission for Development of Horticulture in North Eastern Region including Sikkim who is reasonable to manage the human resource development in Horticulture.

    • Seeds:  the government of India introduced a central sector scheme on transport subsidy for the movement of Seeds to the North-Eastern States, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttaranchal and Hill Areas.

    • Fertilizer: Country introduced a national Project for the development and use of Bio-fertilizers. In order to handle disasters in well manners they also introduced a Natural Disaster Management Program.
