The West Cork oil spill is an ongoing oil spill off the southern coast of Ireland. The origin of the spill is unclear but it was first identified by the European Maritime Safety Agency's CleanSeaNet satellite monitoring system on 14 February 2009. An Irish Air Corps marine patrol aircraft first spotted the slick around the Russian Navy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov which was undergoing refuelling around the same time. The oil spill is proceeding eastwards and is expected to wash up on the coast of Ireland and Wales within 16 days.
