Why is it legal to smoke Marijuana in Amsterdam

   Hi,
   In Holland (the Netherlands) you have to be 18 to buy weed at coffee shops. It is actually illegal though, but it is accepted by the government and the people. Sort of like: they are going to do it anyways, we might as well accept it and have control over the situation. For this, the percentage of Dutch people who smoke weed if a lot less compared to Americans for example.

   Ali is correct, it is equal to a class C drug in the UK. As they found it hard to enforce, they instead taxed it and made rules such as no more than 1kg in a coffee shop at one time, no more than 3g per person per day and others.
   
   Much less people smoke it because it 'legal' (that is, not enforced) than if it was illegal. Many people think it would help the drink problem in the uk if it was made legal and also not as many people would smoke it compared to today.
