Murray has had the misfortune to time his career to coincide with that of a player who has proved himself as the most dominant Grand Slam player in the Open era, which makes the job of becoming world No. 1 just that bit harder. It's a bit early to write off Murray's chances though, he's still only 22 - the same age as Federer when he first claimed the world No. 1 ranking.

Once he wins that elusive first Grand Slam that will pave the way for more success.

He's really come on over the past 12 months but with Federer and Nadal unlikely to go away any time soon, Murray faces a long wait for that number 1 spot. Hopefully he's still a long way off his peak and will enjoy a long career.
