I am looking forward for the launch of FT-86 and heard that it will also be launched outside the US, will the version of this car be the same or it will be a different model and version of this vehicle?

Toyota’s FT-86 is set to go on sale in the early 2012, and will be sold in the U.S. under the label of Scion xB, but the Celica name may then be resurrected in Europe and Japan according to the Autocar.

Toyota would like to retain the name 86 with the name, as the compact rear-wheel-drive car Is much more of a tribute to the AE86 Corolla than the early rear-wheel-drive model and more recent front-wheel-drive vehicle Celicas. The Scion version will likely to stick to its alphabetic naming system and will be known as the FR-S. FR-S stands for Front-engine and the Rear-wheel-drive, Sport.

The styling of the production model won’t be as aggressive as the concept cars were. Even though the FT-86 will then be using Subaru’s lightweight and compact boxer flat-four, the low overall height won’t be enough for the Toyota designers to retain the concept cars’ super-low nose while still passing the pedestrian impact regulations.

Toyota maintains that the camouflaged FT-86 will be seen testing at the Nüurburgring which is not a high-performance version, but there will be aerodynamic pieces available for the car. The version of the FT-86 is expected to make its appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of this year before it goes on sale in 2012.
