People of Peru celebrate New Year in many ways. Some people follow the old customs and traditions of their forefathers while others arrange parties, inviting friends and dear ones and making joyful. Some people burn effigy as a symbol of destroying the evil. It is common view that if one carries a suitcase around Plaza de Armas on New Year's evening, then that person will travel throughout the New Year. People also buy lots of new outfits on New Year for themselves and their families. Another popular custom is the eating of grapes when clock strikes 12.
