    Hi,
The way these work is to have a drain hole at the back of the fridge, with a narrow angled gutter leading down to it. When water condenses, it runs down the back wall to the gutter, along the gutter and out through the hole where it collects in a little pan on the condensor / heat-element and evaporates.

Usually, the hole gets blocked and water accumulates in the fridge leading to ice forming.

It's true that it could be the door seal, especially on an 8-year-old fridge, but I still think the blocked drain hole is a little more likely.
