89 Pathfinder. 5th rebuilt starter, same problem with all. Intermittently will sometimes just click when turning key to START, click always sounds like it is coming from the starter. After a few (or many)attempts will start. When it does start there is no hesitation. Blue clutch interlock has been replaced (no difference). Battery and block ground are good. HEEELLLPPP!

Try taking off your starter and looking at the flywheel.  I have the same issue and from what i could determine the starter and flywheel are not lining up all the time.  On mine there are marks on the flywheel where it has been hitting wrong with the starter.  For mine I have just rocked the vehicle or put it in and out of gear and it cranks up fine.  From underneath when you take off the starter you should be able to see the flywheel if you shine a light there.
I'm wondering if this is a common issue and what other people have done.  I'm considering putting a shim behind the starter to see if that helps.
Hope that helps you narrow it down a little.
