    This sounds like it would be pretty scary for you. Of course, there is no way to know for sure what is going on without seeing a doctor, but there are several possible causes for this pain, some serious and others not. On the serious side, sudden intense headache can be a sign of a stroke or a TIA (transient ischemic attack), which is a very brief stroke lasting only a few minutes.     The pain could also be caused by what is commonly called an "ice pick headache" or primary stabbing headache because the pain is so sudden, localized, and intense, it feels like you have been stabbed by an ice pick. Here is a site with more information on these headaches:
