Copy dos

Build your headline around major benefit
Preview the offer up front and merchandise it throughout your letter
use teasers to target your market
Use the product name in the corner card and letterhead rather than the company name
Qunatify claims as much as possible.  Precents of performance, number of dollars saved or earned, minutes and seconds of time, etc., lend credibility

Don'ts

Don't Introduce yourself or your company - from the outset write about the reader and his or her problem and how your product will help
Don't expand on the state of the industry, world etc. - if the reader doesn't know what you are talking about, you will lose him for sure
Don't use puns
Don't ask yes or no questions in headline
Don't use your product name as a headline by itself without appending benefits or offer copy to it.

    Does not matter how good your copy is, if the offer being made is no good you are not going to gain any long term value.  make sure to write with a strong value proposition and end users in mind. Follow that and you shall win.
