With Brett Lee back for the one day series Australians must be gutted he’s come back a month or two too late. His pace could have made a huge difference in the Ashes, could Australia have won with him in the side?

Australia's bowling problems in the Ashes (Mitchell Johnson's form slump aside) lay more with the absence of a viable spinner than with its pacemen. Ben Hilfenhaus was the leading wicket-taker for the series, claiming 22 scalps. Peter Siddle and Mitchell Johnson each managed a five wicket haul, and Stuart Clark's inclusion in the side from the fourth test onwards straightened up the pace attack. A fit Brett Lee may well have terrorised the Engish batsmen with his pace, with batting proving to be Australia's undoing in both its test losses his presence alone would not have secured the series for Australia.
