It’s the question that has plagued Heskey’s career for years, but is he good enough to start for England? He doesn’t seem to get in the Aston Villa team but is a vital part of Capello’s plans. Is he an unsung hero or just not good enough?

Heskey has had critics ever since Gerard Houllier paid Leicester City £11 million to take the striker to Liverpool, but he keeps coming back to prove them wrong. Cast into the international wilderness by Sven Goran Eriksson after Euro 2004, he returned under Steve McClaren, and has established himself as first choice under Capello.

He is a fantastic targetman, is one of the best around at bringing others into the game and does have a goal or two in him, sometimes. The signs are that he'll be England's number nine in South Africa, regardless of whether he plays for Villa or not.
