Diwali is properly spelled as Devali in some regions or Deepavali which is popularly known as the "festival of lights", it is an important five-day festival in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism, and they are celebrated for many different reasons, they occured between mid-October and mid-November. For Hindus, Diwali is known to be one of the most important festivals of the year and is also celebrated in families by performing some traditional activities in their homes. For Jains, Diwali tells us about the attainment of moksha or nirvana by Mahavira in 527 BC. For Sikhs, Diwali is an important day because it celebrates the release from prison of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, who rescued as many as 52 Hindu kings that held captive by Mughal Emperor with him in the Gwalior Fort in the year 1619.

Diwali is celeberated for the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his longfourteen-year-long exile and for vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In the joyous celebration of return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, is the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas (oil lamps) and burst firecrackers.

The festival starts with the Dhanteras on which the most Indian business communities start their financial year. The second day of the festival was Naraka Chaturdasi, it marks the vanquishing of demon Naraka by Lord Krishna and his wife Satyabhama.
