    The festival of Diwali, popularly known as the "festival of lights", originates from the word Deepavali, is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness. Basically, the word Deepavali is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘an array of lights’. The festival is usually celebrated all over India with much grandeur and splendor. Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes. Diwali holds the profound meaning that light dispels the darkness of ignorance. The sole purpose of the lights and firecrackers is to glorify the light of God and not some artificial glorifications. The lighting of a simple diya meanso bringing the luminosity of God to our homes while chasing away all evil spirits. The origin of Diwali is from the periods, when there were little or no writings, and knowledge used to be transferred through generations, purely by listening, memorizing, and then speaking it out to someone else and that was how the process continued. The origin of Diwali lies in different and varied legends and mythologies of the Hindu scriptures, mostly the Puranas. However, all of them have a single commonality, which is they all depict the triumph of the good over the evil.
