The main goal of treatment of Multiples Myeloma is to relieve the symptoms of this disease. People who have this disease in a mild form are diagnosed carefully without any treatment. Some people have a slow developing form of multiple myeloma that takes some years to cause some of the symptoms. The treatment starts when the disease becomes worse or causes other symptoms. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy might be performed in order to relieve the bone pain or to treat a tumor of the bone.

Medications for the multiple myeloma are decadron melophalan, thalidomide, lenalidomide and bortezomib. Bisphosphonateare also used to prevent fractures. There are people with multiple myeloma who drink plenty of fluids In order to prevent the dehydration and help to maintain the proper kidney function. They must remain cautious during the X-ray tests that use contrast dye. The focus of the treatment for multiple myeloma is more focused on the disease containment and suppression. If the disease in completely asymptomatic then treatment might be deferred. In addition to direct treatment of the plasma  cell proliferation, bisphosphonates are some of the routinely administered to prevent the fractures.

The initial treatment of multiple myeloma depends upon the age of patient and co morbidities. In the recent years, the high dose chemotherapy has become a most popular treatment for the patients who are under the age of 65.
