The current financial climate has seen thousands of people made redundant and with unemployment at an 11 year high, it's important to start focusing on how to protect your existing position. But it's not all doom and gloom! So, here are some tips on how to keep the job you're in:

    1. Embrace change
Being able to adapt to our changing environment and show enthusiasm for learning and growth shows that you're in it for the long haul. By getting involved in as many aspects of your business as you can means your company will depend on you more and more.

    2. Be visible
This is no time to withdraw into the woodwork - it's vital that you showcase your achievements and by letting your boss know what you're accomplishing you'll increase your perceived value to the company.

    3. Stay abreast of the market
Are your skills up to date? Do you have the necessary qualifications to reapply for your job should you need to? Stay in tune with market requirements and take a refresher training course if you need to - the bottom line is that employers don't let assets go.

    4. Manage your online reputation
"Googling" an employee has fast become a way of seeing what they're really all about so make sure any personal online information you wouldn't want found is hidden behind privacy settings.

    5. Be a team player
Improve your chances of keeping your job by showing that you're an integral part of the team. Connect with your co-workers and be the company evangelist.

    6. Don't be a clock watcher
It's easy to make an impression - come in early, leave late and try not to take extended lunch breaks. Management notices these things.

    7. Take care of yourself
We live in stressful times and it's important to get the rest and relaxation needed to perform at your peak!

No matter what situation you're in, no one can afford to ignore our current climate. Employers currently have the upper-hand in the recruitment market, so making yourself as appealing an employee as you can is a must if you want to succeed.
