I am a simple graduate and applied for the job of accountant & housekeeper in a local firm last month. I have received a call letter stating to my surprise that I have been selected for the job. As I have no prior experience of such a job so would like someone to tell me about accounting bookkeeping job description.

A bookkeeper desirably should have a solid background in accounting as he is responsible for the billing, receipts, account management and debt collection, payment of supplier bills, processing of employee salaries, bank reconciliations and generation of monthly reports. It is the responsibility of a bookkeeper to keep and maintain financial records of the organization with a close eye on accounts payables and receivables along with expenditures, profit and loss. He or she must have wide array of skills with some authentic knowledge about whatever is going on in the company. A bookkeeper has to make a number of computations on the daily basis, thus making his mathematical skills even better. He or she must always check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings related to business transactions recorded by other workers in the same business.
