MY HUSBAND NEEDS CLAVICLE SURGERY.  LIKE MOST AMERICANS WE HAVE 3 KIDS AND LIVE PAY CHECK TO PAY CHECK BECAUSE OF THIS ECONOMY.. WE HAVE GREAT HEALTH INSURANCE.   BUT HAVE USED ALL OF OUR SAVINGS AND ANY EXTRA MONEYS TO STAY A FLOAT.  WE HAVE TO $1200.00 OUT OF OUR POCKET IN ORDER FOR HIM TO HAVE THE SURGEY.  WELL WE DON'T HAVE IT AND DON'T WANT TO PUT IT ON A CREDIT CARD.  IS THERE SOMETHING THAT CAN HELP OR GUIDE ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO FIGURE THIS OUT.... HE HAS TO HAVE THIS SURGERY BECAUSE WHERE THE BRAKE IS.

Firstly, there should be no up front money required for your husband's surgery. You will only need to present your insurance card at the time of surgery. Once the claims have been repriced (by using an in network PPO provider) and then processed by the insurance company. You will then receive an EOB (Explanation of Benefits). This form will state how each claim was processed and then what your "patient share" is. Whatever this amount is, you will be able to arrange a payment plan with any medical provider that you owe money to. As long as you work out a payment plan, they will most likely not turn you over to collections.

Keep in mind also, that under most State insurance laws. Your insurance company is obligated to pay the majority of the cost related to this surgery within 45 days of reciept of claims. This being the case, it is much easier to negotiate a payment arrangement for your portion of this surgery once your medical providers have recieved the bulk of the payment within 45 days.
