I live in London and my African friends celebrate Halloween with us. I was wondering to know that whether Halloween is celebrated in Africa or not.

If we talk about Africa, a place which is most talked about is South Africa. As far as the celebration of Halloween is concerned, it isn't really celebrated in South Africa. There do happen to be a few clubs that may have a Halloween theme on the 31/10, but otherwise there's no trick or treating, etc.  About 5 to 10 years ago, no one knew much about Halloween in South Africa. Then suddenly, it sort of appeared out of nowhere. Now in some areas in South Africa, the kids go around by themselves, mostly without adult supervision and try to make the best out of this event. Halloween actually originated from different cultural influences over thousands of years. No matter how each culture celebrates Halloween, it is still apparent that this holiday is being commemorated every year by people all over the world. Besides, the Guy Fawkes is something totally different, the celebration of the foiled gunpowder plot in England on 5 November 1605. As a previous British colony Guy Fawkes is celebrated in South Africa, but not as widely as it used to be celebrated in the past. Mischief night, on the other hand, is only celebrated in England, Scotland, Ireland and the USA. It deals with pranks, so once again, totally different from Halloween and Guy Fawkes.
