    The British Museum was founded on the collection of physician, naturalist and collector, Sir Hans Sloane (1660 - 1753). There are about 71,000 objects in the library and herbarium and did not wish to see his collection dispersed upon his death. The British Museum now has antiquities from all over the world and is the most popular attraction in the capital. The museum contains a vast collection of treasures spanning two million years of world history and civilisation.
    There are over 90 galleries stretching a total of some 2.5 miles grouped into specialised collections. There are collections from the countries like Britain,Europe, Ancient near East, Egypt and Sudan, Greece and Rome.
    The British Museum is the oldest and one of the largest museums in the world.
