   After having a 10-wicket win over the Ashes winner English team, Sri Lanka were always the favourites to win the semi-final against the weaker Kiwi side. Playing on the home ground, on a wicket that had minimum to offer to the seamers, the Lankan spinners blocked the Kiwis innings which looked promising for putting up a big total at the start of the match. Besides, having beaten New Zealand in the semi-final of world cup 2007 and in the group stage of world cup 2011, the home team was never under any threat of losing the big game, despite some good bowling show by the Kiwis.
