   Portugal currently lie in fourth place in Group One and needed an 86th minute strike from Brazilian striker Liedson, who has only recently been granted Portuguese nationality, to rescue a point from Saturday’s match against Denmark. With Sweden two points ahead in third, Hungary three points ahead in second and Denmark seven points ahead at the top of the group it looks all but impossible for Portugal to qualify as winners of the group with all four teams having three games left.  
   Portugal will play Hungary home and away and then face Malta at home. Three wins are vital, but even that may not be enough as Sweden face Albania and Malta, two games they should win, as well as Denmark away, which if a draw would see second place go down to goal difference a category that Sweden are currently ahead of Portugal in.
   Denmark could do Portugal a favour by either losing all of their remaining three games in which case Portugal have a chance of winning the group if Sweden drop some points in either of their other two games, or Denmark could win all their remaining games which would see Portugal secure a play-off spot.
   If Portugal fail to beat Hungary then Hungary need to only get a point to ensure that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be at the World Cup next summer.
   So, whilst qualification for Portugal is still in their own hands, they’ll almost certainly have to win their remaining three games and then win a play-off and to do so will have to play far better than they have done so far in this campaign.

   NOPE but I don't see why everyone is so shocked about it as they've only ever qualified for 4 WC's before, CR9 is waaaaay over-rated, and they are really a Brazil "B" team after all...

   We'll see if they will make it for the 2010 world cup! I all I wanted was not to see the boring Swedes and Hungarians at the 2010 world cup.

   sorry mate portugal aint a brazil (b) as you hav just said,they where once a great country,and they where the ones that have discovered brazil,but speaking about football,england and wayne rooney dont want potugal to go it is simple,because the are knocking them out,see the example of the last world and european cups,and even defend englands penalties without any gloves.
