Along with the black fungus I've recently been observing on my knockout roses, there are also tiny white pests.  The pests are mostly on new buds and the buds and stem are also blackish.  Can you help me correct these problems?

The knockout rose is advertised to be extremely disease-resistant, cold-resistant, and long-blooming.

What I can suggest for your garden cure- is a gallon of ambient temperature water with a few squirts of Ivory Liquid Detergent. What the soap (or oil) does is act as a surfactant---it clogs up the little buggers breathing apparatus. It is critical that you clean up all the fallen leaves and debris under your roses, as most pests (miners especially) and disease will contaminate them. Do not throw in your compost pile---bag it and dispose of it.

Spray away and rinse after an hour or so with clear water. If you can’t control the black spot or pests, consider cutting back (to above any graft to the host rootstock), dispose of the cuttings and let new growth come on. The double edged-sword here is that humidity is exacerbating the condition and you may not be able to do anything about that. Avoid wetting the leaves when they won’t have time to dry--spray in the morning. You can’t do much about ambient rain or humidity.

Good luck to you and hope that it helps!
