If the small piece of bone that is protruding is fully covered with tissue and the bone is not exposed, it could be a torus.  The torus is a localized overgrowth of bone.

    Treatment:

The usual treatment is a small incision and simply removing the bone.  Not a major procedure and with minimal postsurgery problems.

    Hope it helps!
