troubleshoot denon DCT-770

The stereo has power at the connector, but will not power up/turn on. It has been intermittent in the past. When turned on, it plays perfectly.

I have a Denon AVR 770 Amplifier which is stuck on standby. it is receiving power but the remote will no longer turn the unit on. i have a one-for-all universal remote which i could use to work the unit, however there is no service code in the manual. the remote which i have been using is a denon rc-964. any help would be greatly appreciated!
