According to records, AIDS kills 3,000 people a week in Zimbabwe. One million Zimbabweans under 15 years are AIDS orphans. 140,000 children are directly affected. The disease is said to affect one in 10 adults in the country. In comparison, cholera has killed 4,000 people since August. These figures are an indication of how hyped up AIDS and HIV are in comparison to the real killer diseases such as cholera and malaria.

A recent report of the international NGO Doctors Without Borders highlights the seriousness of the AIDS epidemic in Zimbabwe. The disease is said to have reduced life expectancy to 34 years in a country overwhelmed by internal political problems and an unprecedented outbreak of cholera that has lasted for months and claimed over 4,000 lives, ruining the already poor health systems.

The situation today is that there are few doctors in Zimbabwe and many patients who need antiretroviral therapy. “There has been a devastating collapse of the system. Public hospitals are rejecting people, health centers are running out of supplies or equipment, there is a huge shortage of staff, and patients cannot afford the transport to fetch medication,” said Manuel López Iglesias, general coordinator of Doctors Without Borders in the country. “Clearly, this is a medical emergency of enormous proportions,” he adds.
