    Hi,
Like other clocks, 400-Day clocks should be oiled from time to time. Oiling a 400-Day clock is easier than most clocks. They have large oil sinks (the chamfered area around the pivot hole), and the plates are easily accessible.

You should put a small drop of oil in each oil sink where a gear shaft enters the front and back plates. Be careful not to put so much oil in the sink that the oil drips down the plate, because the dripping oil will damage the shiny appearance of the the plates. If you can use a long-tipped oiler to reach behind the dial to the front plate, this will be preferable to removing the hands and dial. On some 400-Day clocks, the tightness of the hand nut is critical: if the nut is too loose, the minute hand will fall down from the 3:00 and 9:00 position to the 6:00 position; if it is too tight, the clock may stop. Finally, put a very tiny spot of oil on three teeth of the escape wheel.

    Thanks
