   A carbohydrate is an organic compound with the empirical formula Cm(H2O)n; which is consists of carbon, hydrogen  and oxygen, with the hydrogen and oxygen in a 2:1 atom ratio. The carbohydrates are divided into four chemical groups: monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides.
