In India, the attitude of the people is appear as else’s problem, as something that influence people living on the margins of society, whose lifestyles are thought immoral. Even as it moves into the common population, the HIV epidemic is still misunderstood among the Indian people. The patients living with HIV have beard violent attacks, been rejected by families, spouses and the societies, been refused medical treatment, and even, in few reported situation, denied the last rites before they die. This attitude of discrimination is adding in the suffering of people living with HIV, this discrimination is creating the difficulties for the efforts to prevent new infections. However such dangerous reactions to HIV and AIDS exist, it is difficult to educate people about how they can prevent from infection. AIDS outreach workers and peer-educators have reported harassment, and in schools, teachers often face negative response from the parents of children that they teach about AIDS.

Discrimination is also alarmingly usual in the health care part of the society. Negative attitudes from health care staff have creating anxiety and fear among several people living with HIV and AIDS. As a result, many keep their illness secret. It is not a wonder that for several HIV positive people, AIDS-related fear and anxiety, and at times denial of their HIV status, can be find to traumatic experiences in health care settings.
