Eid ul Fitr is often abbreviated as Eid, it is a three days Muslim Holiday and it marks the end of Ramazan. It marks the end of the holy month of  the fasting. Eid is an Arabic word and it means festivity while Fitr means Conclusion of the fast. The holiday celebrates the end of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting that occured during the entire Ramadan month. The first day of Eid, as a result , lies on the first day of the month Shawwal.

It is said that  sacred knowledge was revealed to prophet Muhammad during the holy month of Ramadan. As a mark of respect to Almighty Allah and to show gratitude to him for true knowledge that he gave to all the people, the prophet asked to his followers (and therefore the followers of Islam) to pass the month of Ramadan in a manner of fasting, prayers and other noble austerities and end the month is a celebration for the sacrifice . This is the way how Eid-Ul-Fitr was born. This three-day long celebration ends the period of ninth month and begins the tenth month of Shawwal with a new absolute happiness and contentment for ability to sacrifice for Allah. The aim of celebrating this festival is to promote peace, strengthen all the feeling of brotherhood and also bringing oneself back to the normal course and pattern of life after a long period of self-denial and religious devotion.

Eid ul Fitr was celebrated on 23rd January in the year 1966.
