Yes, you can upgrade your Windows vista to windows 7. For that you need to follow the given instructions.

First of all buy a copy CD or DVD of Windows 7 to upgrade your Windows vista.   Then put it in the CD or DVD drive. Click on the Install option once display on the screen of your computer. In case of disabled auto-run, you need to open the DVD drive root to run setup.exe file. Here you make sure to Use the Adviser to help in case of  having problem in installing or checking the Compatibility of you personal computer or Laptop.

You will see two options after running the setup which are:

    - Install Now

    - Check compatibility online

You can safely click Install Now button as you have already verified the compatibility of your system by using Windows 7 upgrade adviser.

After that two options will be displayed on the screen:

-Do not get the latest updates for installation

-Go online to get the latest update for installation

You do not need to go for updates if you have the latest Windows 7 version. It is always advisable to go with the Recommended Option for further inconvenience in installation.  Being an IT Specialist I recommend you  always accept the license agreement and then go Next for  continuing the procedure of installation. Further two options will be displayed on the screen:

    - Custom

    - Upgrade

Here it is always recommendable to choose Upgrade option for upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. For that you need press Next button. Here, Windows will again check for the compatibility and will produce the report. Windows will highlight the problem and will save the report to the desktop if it searches any incompatibility issues. If there is no incompatibilities issue the Windows 7 Setup will precede further without any interaction.
