You must be running Windows 7 "Home" or "Starter" edition. You need to upgrade or downgrade your Windows operating system to access to the computer of your friend remotely. You cannot connect to other system if running Windows 7 "Home" or "Starter" editions as it is not providing remote access to Windows XP.

Windows allows anyone to seek file sharing and getting help from outside users through Remote Assistance in Windows XP through Easy Connect in Windows 7. You can also connect to a work or home computer with the help of Remote Desktop if you have enabled your remote access. However, computers running the Windows 7 "Home" or "Starter" editions are unable to connect to from another system.

Go to System Properties. Her you will see the Windows logo button in Windows 7, you need to press it. After that you will type "view advanced system settings" in the "Search files" box. Press "View advanced system settings" which is given in the list.

Choose the "Remote" tab appear in the System Properties box. Now press the check box of "Allow Remote Assistance" and press the "Advanced" button. Further click the check box of "Allow this computer to be controlled remotely". Once done press "OK." Appear under the "Remote Desktop" section. In Windows 7, allow connections from computers" radio button. At the end you will press "Apply" and then "OK" to close the System Properties box in your computer.

To Configure Windows Firewall, you need to type "Firewall" in the box of the "Search files" in the "Start" menu of Windows 7. Press "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" that will be in search results list. Now press "Change Settings" in the Windows Firewall window and give the password of administrator. Scroll the list of programs and press the check box which is next to "Remote Assistance" or "Remote Desktop," that depend on service you want to access.
