Although a speech can be an insightful and memorable moment in the pages of human history, many writers and researchers are not sure how to write a reference for information taken from one. As we will learn here, speeches are only referenced in MLA citation style. Learn the step-by-step way to gather information from a speech and cite the reference. Think of MLA Format as providing the reader with the basic information of the what, when, and where of one's particular speech. To write a reference, start with finding the specifics of the event: the speaker's name, location, the date the speech was given. Review the MLA formatting template: last name, first name, "title of speech," description of event, building, city, state and date. Example: Hoskins, Bob. "Smee & Me: An British Actor's Trip Through Hollywood." Planning Your Future Conference. Ford Center for the Arts, Knox College, Galesburg, IL. 21 May 1994.
